Team Leader
Beata Dudziec (née Gaczewska) was born in Zduńska Wola, Poland, in 1980. She received her MSc degree in Chemistry from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań in 2004, completing her thesis under the supervision of Professor Bogdan Marciniec. During her MSc studies, she spent six months as an Erasmus–Socrates exchange student in the research group of Professor Luis Oro at the University of Zaragoza, Spain.
In 2004, she began her doctoral studies, focusing on the catalytic transformations of vinylsilicon compounds and the activation of C–H bonds in terminal alkynes. During this period, she was awarded a DAAD fellowship, which enabled her to conduct research in the group of Professor Rhett Kempe at the University of Bayreuth, Germany. In June 2008, she received her PhD degree in Chemistry under the supervision of Professor Bogdan Marciniec.
She subsequently participated as a researcher in numerous projects conducted in the Department of Organometallic Chemistry. In 2013, she launched her first independent research project, funded by the National Science Centre, Poland, within the SONATA 3 programme: “Synthesis of Unsaturated Derivatives of Double-Decker Silsesquioxanes (DDSQ) as Precursors of New Organic–Inorganic Hybrid Materials” (2013–2016).
In 2015, she received a scholarship for outstanding young scientists from the Polish Minister of Science and Higher Education. In 2016, she completed a two-month research stay in the group of Professor Rhett Kempe at the University of Bayreuth, funded by the DAAD programme “Research Stays for University Academics and Scientists.”
In 2017 and 2021, she was awarded OPUS grants from the National Science Centre for research on the functionalization of silsesquioxanes and their applications in materials chemistry, coordination chemistry, and the design of advanced hybrid systems.
In October 2018, she obtained her habilitation degree on the basis of research entitled “Synthesis of Functionalized Silsesquioxanes as Precursors of Hybrid Materials.” In 2019, she established her independent research group, the Laboratory of Functional Organosilicon Compounds, at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań.
In 2024, together with Professor Sandra Paszkiewicz from the West Pomeranian University of Technology and Professor Mateusz Barczewski from Poznań University of Technology, she received funding within the OPUS 26 programme of the National Science Centre for the project “Development of a New Approach to the Production and Compatibilization of Polyester Blends Using Hybrid Organic–Inorganic Additives.”
By the decision of the President of the Republic of Poland dated 19 June 2026, she was awarded the title of Professor of Natural Sciences in the discipline of Chemical Sciences.
Her scientific interests focus on the catalytic transformations of organosilicon and organogermanium compounds, with particular emphasis on silsesquioxanes containing well-defined Si–O–Si frameworks. This research involves the synthesis, functionalization, and application of silsesquioxanes as versatile molecular building blocks for coordination compounds, functional materials, polymers, and other molecular and macromolecular organic–inorganic hybrid systems.
