ISySyCat 2025 (International Symposium on Synthesis and Catalysis) took place from September 2 to 5, 2025, at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Coimbra. The conference focused on modern topics in chemical synthesis and catalysis. It was truly an unforgettable experience – filled with inspiring scientific discussions and the rich flavours of Portuguese cuisine. Together with Monika, Kasia, and myself (Beata), we each had the chance to present our research during the Flash Communication sessions.

The city of Coimbra itself added a special charm to the event. Nestled around the historic Faculty of Pharmacy, where the symposium took place, the atmosphere felt both academic and welcoming, blending tradition with modern science. The social program was another highlight. The Gala Dinner at Tertúlia d’Eventos treated us to local delicacies and outstanding Portuguese wines, all served in a setting rich with history and warmth. The next day’s excursion to Quinta do Encontro winery in Anadia was equally memorable – starting with a panoramic welcome cocktail among vineyards, followed by wine tasting and a delicious three-course lunch. It was the perfect moment to exchange ideas in a relaxed setting, surrounded by the peaceful countryside. And of course, the culinary journey throughout the conference was a delight – from traditional bacalhau dishes to indulgent Portuguese desserts, each meal was a celebration of local culture. Hope to come back there someday….
