New review article: Click and Enjoy!

We are delighted to announce the publication of our new review article entitled “Click and Enjoy: Recent Developments in the Click Chemistry of Silsesquioxanes: Critical Assessment and Future Perspectives” in the Journal of Inorganic and Organometallic Polymers and Materials (Springer Nature). The paper was authored by our PhD student Julia Frąckowiak and Beata Dudziec and is available in open access.

Congratulations to Julia on her first review article!

The review provides a comprehensive and critical overview of the application of click chemistry in the functionalization of silsesquioxanes. Particular attention is devoted to the preparation of reactive “clickable” SQ precursors and to single-, double-, and multiple-click strategies based on reactions such as CuAAC, SPAAC, thiol–ene coupling, Diels–Alder cycloaddition, oxime ligation and Menshutkin quaternization. Rather than presenting only a collection of literature examples, the article compares the efficiency, versatility and limitations of individual synthetic approaches. It also demonstrates how click chemistry enables the rational construction of mono- and multifunctional silsesquioxane architectures for applications in polymeric and hybrid materials, self-healing systems, hydrogels, porous materials, surfactants and biomedical platforms. The review highlights current challenges and identifies promising directions for the further development of modular, selective and increasingly sustainable strategies for the design of advanced silsesquioxane-based materials.
