Great start for Dr Katarzyna Mituła-Chmielowiec in 2025. In 2023, she did her Postdoc internship in Esteruela’s Group at the University of Zaragoza, Spain. Kasia participated in two projects concerning the activity of Rh and Os complexes in selected catalytic reactions. December was a good month for publishing the results of these studies along with the co-workers and supervision of Prof. Miguel Esteruelas Group in Organometallics. On December 6th, I had the great honour and pleasure of participating in the PhD Promotion Event at AMU, in Lubranski Aula. During this traditional ceremony, celebrated only once a year, Aleksandra Mrzygłód—my third PhD student—was officially awarded her PhD diploma.

Congratulations, Ola, on this significant achievement! Wishing you every success in your new endeavours!

This time it was almost a month of exciting laboratories for three groups of students from the prestigious 38th Dwujęzyczne Liceum Ogólnokształcące im. Jana Nowaka-Jeziorańskiego in Poznan. Dr. Jadwiga Pyziak, a valued colleague and chemistry teacher, facilitated this incredible collaboration. Among the participants were 3 groups of exceptional and enthusiastic young minds, eager to explore the wonders of chemistry. This extraordinary experience was crafted especially for students interested in chemistry and curious about scientific discovery. Over several days, our Laboratory of Functional Organosilicon Compounds became their exploration hub. They conducted fascinating experiments and gained invaluable hands-on experience in the realm of scientific research. Continue reading →

A paper has just appeared! It concerns the newest project NCN OPUS26: “Development of a new approach to the production and compatibilization of polyester blends using hybrid organic–inorganic additives,” being studied within a Consortium of ZUT-PUT-AMU: research teams of prof. ZUT dr hab. inż Sandra Paszkiewicz, prof. PUT dr hab. inż. Mateusz Barczewski and, from our side, prof. AMU dr hab. Beata Dudziec. The paper discloses the PLA composites with octaphenylsilsesquioxane and their thermal behaviour. Continue reading →

We are in the middle of the 66th Polish Chemical Society Conference, this time taking place in Poznan (15-20 September 2024).
A great time to exchange our scientific results and ideas with many Polish and foreign researchers. It was an honour and pleasure to meet Prof. Ben Feringa, a Noble Prize Winner in Chemistry, in 2016, and to participate in his Opening Lecture.

The newest work published by Prof. UAM Patrycja Żak emphasises the strength of diol-modified silsesquioxanes to be applied in organocatalysis. Dr Ola Mrzygłód took part in this research and here we have a great work on facile esterification of α,β-unsaturated aldehydes with alcohols catalysed by bulky N-heterocyclic (NHC) carbene as a metal-free and eco-friendly organocatalyst. The elaborated protocol’s mild conditions and good efficiency prove its high potential. The abovementioned SQs were used as the source of hydroxyl groups. Congratulations to all Authors!
