Our recent publication in Scientific Reports addresses the intriguing combination of two or three silsesquioxane molecules, a key aspect of Julia’s PhD thesis. This research was made possible through a strong collaboration between our group, Prof. Jędrzej Walkowiak, and Prof. Marcin Hoffmann. The study showcases an effective blend of synthetic and theoretical approaches to explore the assembly of these large molecules, with computational insights led by Dr. Wojciech Jankowski. Hosting Xiaohan – a PhD student from China
We are hosting a PhD student from China in our laboratory for 6 months, till December 2024. Xiaohan Zhao is from Prof. Hongzhi Liu’s group from Shandong University in Jinan. She is staying in our laboratory thanks to the Erasmus+ Student Mobility for Traineeships Programme. Xiaohan is doing her PhD in the area of chemistry of materials. She is being introduced to techniques for working in an inert atmosphere using the Schlenk line, performing catalytic reactions, i.a. hydrosilylation. Next, she will also spend some time in the Laboratory of Prof. UAM Robert Przekop, getting to learn 3D printing techniques.
We are looking for a PhD candidate within OPUS21 project
6th Int. Symposium on Silsesquioxanes-Based Materials (6SFM) 8-11 July 2024
It was a great pleasure to organize the 6th International Symposium on Silsesquioxanes-Based Materials and host such experienced scientists worldwide. We are all focused or even fixed on the synthesis, and modification of these strange inorganic-organic silicon architectures called silsesquioxanes/POSS or simply cages. Though sometimes they are not even cages – funny thing 🙂
The best 4 days for silicon chemists in July needed a lot of work from the Organizing Team but awarded us with great lectures, i.a. Joe Lichtenhan, Michel Wong Chi Man and Yoshiro Kaneko. Interesting and innovative posters and most of all discussions that were fruitful and may turn out to be greatly motivating for future collaborations. Looking forward to the 7th SFM in the USA!
Ola Mrzygłód – PhD Defence
The 2nd of July 2024 – a day of Ola Mrzygłód PhD Defence. We had the great pleasure of participating in Ola’s PhD Defence that took place in the Faculty of Chemistry. We saw the presentation and very pleasant Reviewers’ comments. The dissertation was presented to be distinguished by the votes of Reviewers and Members of the Doctoral Committee.
Congratulations Ola on the new step of your career path!
NCN OPUS 26 – project results
And …. again we did it with our friends getting funding in National Science Centre OPUS 26th edition of projects in consortium with the West Pomeranian University of Technology and Poznan University of Technology. The project: “Development of a new approach to the production and compatibilization of polyester blends using hybrid organic-inorganic additives” with Prof. ZUT dr hab. Sandra Paszkiewicz as our PI, prof. PP dr hab. Mateusz Barczewski and prof. UAM dr hab. Beata Dudziec was among the 9th of the lucky ones granted (of 118 project proposals in the ST8 panel). Go Team ZUT-PP-UAM!!!
VII Poznan Symposium of Young Scientists – May 2024
Last Wednesday, 15 May 2024 we had the pleasure of participating in a VII Poznan Symposium of Young Scientists organized in the Faculty of Chemistry, AMU. It was an event for Master Students to present their thesis as an oral presentation or a poster. Natalia Guzik was our representative and she prepared the poster. Her master thesis is entitled: “Synthesis and characterization of silsesquioxanes with N, O-based aromatic donor groups for the coordination of selected d-block metal ions“. The results are funded by OPUS21 (NCN) and Study@Research by IDUB grants. Great job Natalia and dr Asia Szymkowiak with whom Natalia works in a lab.
Lecture at CMMS PAN in Łódź
On April 24, 2024 prof. UAM Beata Dudziec had the privilege to give a lecture for the Scientific Members and Students of the Centre of Molecular and Macromolecular Studies Polish Academy of Sciences in Łódź. Dr Katarzyna Mituła was also participating in this event. It was an Invited Lecture by Prof. CMMS Monika Gosecka, the Head of the Department of Functional Polymers and Polymeric Materials. It was entitled: “Silsesquioxanes From The Bottom To Their Potential Application”. The meeting was fruitful in interesting and inspiring discussions within the group of professors, incl. Prof. Anna Kowalewska, prof. Sławomir Rubinsztajn and prof. Włodzimierz Stańczyk. Continue reading
6SFM Symposium planned in June in Poznan
We are delighted to announce that we are a part of the Organizing Team for 6th International Symposium on Silsesquioxanes-Based Functional Materials to be held in Poznan at Centre for Advanced Technologies and Faculty of Chemistry Adam Mickiewicz University.
The significance of this event is underscored by the participation of distinguished and experienced scientists – experts in the field of silicon and silsesquioxane chemistry from around, i.e. prof. Kaneko and Prof. Unno (Japan), prof. Wong Chi Man (France), prof. Laine (USA) and most of all dr Lichtenhan – the founder and director of Hybrid Plastics. The registration is now open, we encourage you to participate.
