Polyol-dendrimers @SQs

Just unwrapped a scientific gem from @InorgChem! 🎁🔬
Check out Aleksandra’s and Monika’s fantastic work on dendritic hybrid systems anchored to silsesquioxane cores of different types. This is an unexpected paper to come out as at the beginning of its preparation and collecting the result there were so many things to get the answers. And here it is! A final work for Aleksandra’s PhD Thesis – such a brilliant read! Congrats! 👏

A new 2023/24 Academic Year

And here we are …. 2023/24 – a New Academic Year has just started. This year, two of our students are performing their Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree Studies – Aleksandra and Natalia. We also warmly welcome the 2nd year of Chemistry Studies, with a specialization in Applied Chemistry – Julia, Karolina and Mateusz.

DDSQ-based silylferrocene dendrimers

Just out @Inorganic Chemistry! Excellent cooperation with Prof. Pilar Garcia Armada from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid during a few weeks of Ola Mrzygłód internship in Madrid. The paper describes the synthesis of DDSQ-based silylferrocene intriguing G1 and G2 dendrimers. Our investigation also encompassed the examination of their properties, including electrochemical behaviour. This study marks the 1st example of modifying double-decker silsesquioxane cores with ferrocene groups while simultaneously representing one of the scarce instances of dendrimers exhibiting an open double-decker silsesquioxane core. Workshop for High School Students

During these exciting two weeks in September, we are honoured to welcome four bright and enthusiastic students from the prestigious 38th Dwujęzyczne Liceum Ogólnokształcące im. Jana Nowaka-Jeziorańskiego in Poznan, where our colleague Dr. Jadwiga Pyziak is a chemistry teacher. Dr. Pyziak performed her PhD dissertation in Prof. Bogdan Marciniec’s research group.  This unique opportunity is tailor-made for young chemistry enthusiasts and those with a burning passion for the wonders of the chemical world. Our Laboratory of Functional Organosilicon Compounds will be their playground for a few days. They’ll conduct some chemical experiments and gain firsthand insight into scientific research. This isn’t just a workshop; it’s an inspiring journey into the world of chemistry. Our aim is to spark a lifelong passion for chemistry. Continue reading →

Ola’s Working in Hasco

MSc Ola Mrzygłód has recently started her new work at Hasco-Lek, a prominent Polish pharmaceutical company located in Wrocław. Hasco-Lek has been a leading manufacturer of drugs, dietary supplements, cosmetics, and medical devices for nearly 40 years, delivering over 48 million product packages annually. It is a well-recognized and trusted brand in Poland. During her internship, Ola will have a valuable opportunity to gain new competencies and enhance her practical skills in the industrial laboratory. We wish Ola the best of luck in her work!

10ESD in Montpellier 10-12 July 2023

The 10th European Silicon Days (10ESD) – one of the most important cyclic event in the chemistry of Silicon of international impact is taking place in University campus in the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Montpellier located in the north of Montpellier. It was a great opportunity to listen to world-class experts presenting state-of-the-art advances in the chemistry of organosilicon, silicon and related issues and have some exciting discussions.

Three of our group members presented the results we obtained recently: Prof. UAM dr hab. Beata Dudziec (Invited Lecture), Dr Monika Rzonsowska (Oral Communication) and MSc Aleksandra Mrzygłód (poster) were co-financed by NCN and Research University Excellence Initiative (ID-UB). Continue reading →

Linking the idea of SQs with dendrimers possessing Si-H function

Our next work was published just yesterday in the prestigious RSC Inorganic Chemistry Frontiers journal. This is a good collaboration work dealing with the elaboration of a synthetic protocol to gain a series of silsesquioxane dendrimers with different cores, from mono-T8, octa-T8 silsesquioxane to di- and tetrafunctional double-decker silsesquioxanes with reactive Si-H moiety. They were obtained in a one-pot synthetic path based on a sequence of Si-H hydrosilylation and Si-Cl reduction reactions. The protocol was verified in terms of a few factors, i.e. placement of the reactive Si-H and Si-Vi bond in substrates and two reducing agents (LiAlH4 and Red-Al®), respectively. Continue reading →

Our new BSc and MSc within a week

Just within a week we have had two defences.
On 3rd July Mikołaj Walczak defended his MSc thesis entitled “Application of organosilicon compounds for the modification of polyoxazoline”.
A week later, on 10th July Julia Frąckowiak defended her BSc thesis “Synthesis of silsesquioxanes azide derivatives and their appliance in catalysis”.

Good Job! Congratulations both to Julia and Mikołaj.
