Pyrkon 2023 – not only science matters….

Last weekend, from June 16th to 18th, Poznan hosted Pyrkon 2023, the largest fan convention in Europe, which celebrated popular culture beyond science. This three-day event brought together enthusiasts of fantasy literature, gaming, movies, board games, cosplay, comics, and more. It provided a haven for collectors and shopaholics, offering unique handicrafts and sought-after collector’s items. Pyrkon 2023 also emphasized inclusivity, social issues, and diversity, creating a magical atmosphere where attendees could truly immerse themselves and experience the power of passion and creativity in connecting people and inspiring new adventures. 8th Int. Seminar on Modern Polymeric Materials in Cracow – May 17-19

Beata Dudziec was participating in a 8th edition of International Seminar on Modern Polymeric Materials for Environmental Applications that took place in Cracow, May 17-19, 2023, organized by Cracow University of Technology. This Symposium was devoted to prof. Jan Pielichowski to celebrate the 85th anniversary of his birthday. It was an interesting event with materials chemists and specialists in polymeric systems. Most of all it was a Symposium with scientists who have a practical approach to solving application problems in materials chemistry. Continue reading →

14th APME Conference in Paris- April 24-27

Between April 24-27th 2023 the “14th Advanced Polymers via Macromolecular Engineering” Conference (APME23) was being held in Paris. It is a great opportunity to share our experience and the result of conducted research in with the Participants of this Event. Ola Mrzygłód is representing our Research Team exhibiting her results on some ferrocene-based silsesquioxanes. This is a part of our cooperation with prof. Pilar Garcia Armada from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. Continue reading →

11th February – Women and Girls in Science

Today, on 11 February we are celebrating the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. Most of our group consists of brilliant young women who are so persistent in their actions to discover something new. Also, they have a great passion for teaching young chemistry adepts.

Thank you for all your efforts ❤.

Let’s have true satisfaction in what we do and perseverance in overcoming obstacles.

Kasia Working in Zaragoza

Dr Kasia Mituła has changed her place of job and stay. In November 2022 she has started working as a Post Doc in prof. Miguel Esteruelas Group in Departamento de Química Inorgánica Facultad de Ciencias at Universidad de Zaragoza. Kasia is dealing with the synthesis of osmium complexes and their potential applications. Zaragoza is a capital of Aragon Province in Spain. It’s a beautiful city situated on the Ebro River, with medieval traditions like Palacio de Aljafería from XI century and other great cultural places to visit. Kasia, good Lock to U!

Why not Fluorosilsesquioxanes?

Just before Christmas a paper was published on smart and efficient methodologies for the synthesis of a variety of fluorinated silsesquioxanes (SQs) with diverse Si-O-Si core architecture. It’s a paper from Julia’s PhD Thesis. This protocol is based on an easy-to-handle and selective hydrosilylation reaction. We investigated the impact of the placement of the reactive Si-HC=CH2 vs. Si-H group in the silsesquioxane, as the structure of well as silane versus olefin on the selectivity of the process. Another PhD Defence in our Group

14th December was our happy day for MSc Julia Duszczak to defence her PhD Dissertation. This time we had an opportunity to participate in a traditional defence, i.e. organized in stationary form. It was our pleasure to guest two distinguished specialists in the area of catalysis, polymerization and organosilicon chemistry: prof. dr hab. Jolanta Ejfler form University of Wrocław and prof. dr hab. Marek Cypryk from Centre of Molecular and Macromolecular Studies of Polish Academy of Sciences in Łódź. Continue reading →

Linear copolymers with DDSQs ;)

Again, a nice gift from Santa 😉 A new paper from Julia’s PhD Thesis has just been published.
It describes a distinct look at known, hydrosilylation reactions used for the formation of DDSQ-based linear A-B alternating macromolecular systems with DPn > 1000. It is a trial to show studies on the impact of Si-H and Si-Vi reactive group placement in DDSQ or in a respective co-reagent on the molecular weight distributions, degree of polymerization of resulting co-polymers as well as their selected physicochemical properties, i.e. thermal, mechanical, hydrophobic.
